My favourite part of writing is spending time with my characters. Some writers say that their characters surprise them - mine don't. I like spending time with them because I know them. When they suffer, it is for something that matters. When they are filled with joy, I give them the space to enjoy it, because they have earned it. And I enjoy writing both kinds of scenes, because as a reader, I enjoy reading both.
